Recommendation #74 To: San Diego, California State University

San Diego should immediately ensure that the entrances to all mechanical rooms with asbestos or material presumed to contain asbestos have signage to inform employees about the presence of the hazardous substance.

6-Month Agency Response

The Interim Director - Facilities Services has confirmed that signage for all mechanical room entrances with asbestos or material presumed to contain asbestos has been posted to inform employees of the hazardous substances.

California State Auditor's Assessment of 6-Month Status: Fully Implemented

San Diego provided evidence that it placed the required warning signs at the entrances to the mechanical rooms with asbestos or material presumed to contain asbestos that we identified during our audit as not having the required signage. It also provided an email from the interim director of Facilities Services stating that he had placed the required warning signs inside and at the entrances to all mechanical rooms with asbestos or material presumed to contain asbestos. Provided that this is true, we consider this recommendation to be fully implemented.

60-Day Agency Response

Implementation in progress. Signage for 30 mechanical rooms has been ordered and installation by Facilities Services will begin when received.

California State Auditor's Assessment of 60-Day Status: Pending
