Report 2015-032: California's Postsecondary Educational Institutions: More Guidance Is Needed to Increase Compliance With Federal Crime Reporting Requirements (Release Date: July 2015)

Recommendation #3 To: University of California, San Diego

San Diego should review and adhere to applicable guidance related to the Clery Act, including the OPE handbook and the Uniform Crime Reporting Handbook, to ensure that it is accurately reporting its crime statistics.

60-Day Agency Response

As standard practice, the UCSD Police Department has reviewed the OPE Handbook and the Uniform Crime Reporting Handbook and will do so on a continuous basis. San Diego recently hired a full-time Clery Compliance Officer (CCO) who will assist in classifying crimes. The CCO monitors new guidance from the US Department of Education relating to Clery compliance and shares it with appropriate contacts at the University to ensure on-going compliance.

California State Auditor's Assessment of 60-Day Status: Fully Implemented
