Know How an Issue Impacts Your Community.

Publishing the data we collect helps the public and their representatives understand what's happening where they live and how problems may be affecting them.

A GIF showing an example of how our interactive graphics work. This GIF specifically shows users information regarding preventive care utilization rates for children. It includes a map of California with each county shaded by utilization rate. The GIF shows that when a user changes the fiscal year, they can see changes to overall utilization rates as well as utilization rates by age, language, and ethnicity.

Ben is Using New Technologies to Help Public Officials Make Good Decisions.

Every day, Ben tries to answer one question, 'what is really going on?' To find answers, he sifts through millions of records, pushing the boundaries in government data analysis. He is looking for trends and irregularities and expanding our use of geospatial analyses and interactive graphics. These technologies allow our office to uncover problems that would otherwise go unnoticed and pursue important solutions that cut across issues and agencies.

"I don't ever want to stop learning and growing. I think we can leverage new technologies to have a bigger policy impact."
